Tamarack, WV – This is one I’m not sure we should be including on our list yet. But we did sleep overnight in our RV. On our way to South Carolina, we stayed overnight in Beckley, WV. We intended to sleep at the truck stop, but it was completely full.
I’m not at all opposed to sleeping in a truck stop, but it is not my favorite either. The truckers have a job to do, and leave their diesel trucks running to run the heat or air conditioning to get a few hours of comfortable sleep. They are in and out all night long. Not, a great night’s sleep for a family.
In this case, it was January and snow was still on the ground. I pulled out the AllStays app, and found the Best of West Virginia has a few RV overnight spots. This was right across the street from the truck stop, so we were in luck! If it were another time of year, I’m sure the spots would have been full by the time we pulled in at 11:00 pm. But, only two of the spots were taken.
They were wide, allowing us to put out our slides and access the bunk room. And, we had a great trout breakfast in the morning. Of course, our RV battery was dead after running the furnace all night (we later found our truck wasn’t charging the RV battery while driving) and had to use so creativity to jump the camper battery to get the slides in to get back on the road. But staying overnight at the Tamarack is a great tip if you just need an overnight stop near Beckley, WV.
